The duty uniform worn from before 2254, to provisionally at least 2268, consisted of a top which displayed the division color and a pair of dark gray or dark blue trousers. The top's collar was designed with a turtleneck appearance.

The assignment patch was on the left breast and the rank insignia were displayed on the sleeves.

One uniform style had a cowl neck collar and closed with a zipper down the back. This uniform also had black trousers similar to the regular uniform. This variant was mostly worn by women at the time.

For diplomatic or other formal functions, a dress uniform was also available to Starfleet personnel. It consisted of jacket, edged with gold trim, with matching epaulets, worn over the standard issue uniform top and pants.

A heavy jacket, in blue-gray, was standard issue for landing parties. Each of the cuffs of these jackets were either adorned with a white stripe, a blue stripe, or no stripes. The white stripe was on jackets worn by officers and the chief petty officer; the blue stripe was worn by technicians and the yeoman wore no stripes.

A utility harness was available, used to carry laser pistols and communicators. It was later replaced by a metal Equipment belt.
